JP Selecta Laboratory Hotplates

JP Selecta laboratory hotplates provide uniform heating surfaces for evaporation, digestion, drying and temperature maintenance of laboratory vessels. The range includes simple hotplates, hotplates with integrated magnetic stirring and multi-position systems. Models with magnetic stirring share technology with our laboratory stirrers.

The operating principle relies on an electric resistor beneath a vitrified ceramic surface that uniformly distributes heat by conduction. In magnetic-stirring models, a rotating magnet system under the plate transmits rotary motion to the stir bar immersed in the liquid. Optional connection to external thermometers for bath temperature control follows the standardized interface in DIN 12878 on electrical laboratory equipment - adjustable contact thermometers and control devices.

The range includes simple hotplates with ceramic heating up to 350 °C and surfaces from 145×145 mm to 250×250 mm, magnetic stirring hotplates combining heating and rotation from 100 to 1,500 rpm, multi-position plates for simultaneous processing of up to 15 samples, and high-temperature digestion models. For larger-scale heating with superior uniformity, see our laboratory ovens with forced convection.

Applications cover acid digestion in sample preparation for elemental analysis, controlled evaporation of small volumes, paraffin and resin melting, temperature maintenance in organic synthesis reactions documented in the IUPAC Gold Book (international compendium of chemical terminology), and controlled heating in gravimetric preparations. Temperature measurement follows the recommendations of ASTM E2877 on digital contact thermometers.

Regarding regulatory compliance, JP Selecta hotplates meet the electrical safety requirements of IEC 61010-1 and the particular requirements for heating equipment in IEC 61010-2-010, including safety temperature limitation and thermal insulation of accessible parts. Analytical instrument qualification follows USP <1058>, and calibration traceable to NIST standards is performed against the NIST Standard Reference Materials for temperature.

Manufactured in Abrera under triple certification ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 13485:2018 (see our quality certifications), JP Selecta hotplates feature official technical service and availability of stir bars, Pt100 probes and replacement supports.
