JP Selecta laboratory stirrers deliver homogeneous mixing of liquids, suspensions and emulsions with precise speed control and, in heated models, temperature control. The range encompasses magnetic stirrers with and without heating, orbital shakers, reciprocating shakers and vortex mixers for test tubes. Heated models share technology with our laboratory hotplates and are standard equipment in chemical synthesis.
The operating principle varies by type: magnetic stirrers transmit rotary motion via a rare-earth magnet system to the stir bar immersed in the liquid, orbital shakers generate horizontal circular motion and vortex mixers produce rapid oscillation creating turbulent swirls. The electrical and mechanical safety of this equipment is governed by IEC 61010-2-051 on particular requirements for laboratory equipment for mixing and stirring.
The range includes magnetic stirrers with acid-resistant ceramic heating up to 350 °C and speeds from 100 to 1,500 rpm, orbital shakers with interchangeable platform for Erlenmeyer flasks and microtitre plates, reciprocating shakers with adjustable oscillation regime, and vortex mixers with interchangeable cup head for fast tube mixing. For larger-scale stirring with temperature and pressure control, see our laboratory reactors.
Applications cover reagent dissolution, preparation of culture media per ISO 11133 on microbiology of food, animal feed and water, homogenization of cosmetic and pharmaceutical emulsions, chemical synthesis reactions and shaking incubation of microbial cultures. Safe use in laboratories follows the requirements of the OSHA 29 CFR 1910.1450 Chemical Hygiene Plan on occupational exposure to hazardous chemicals in laboratories.
The material in contact with the sample (plate, vessels) conforms to the borosilicate glass 3.3 properties described in ISO 3585, ensuring thermal shock resistance and chemical resistance to mineral acids. For terminology of spectroscopy and analytical chemistry used in scientific reports, refer to the IUPAC analytical methods glossary and the Royal Society of Chemistry editorial resources.
Manufactured in Abrera under triple certification ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 13485:2018, JP Selecta stirrers feature official technical service and availability of stir bars, plates and replacement accessories. A magnetic stirrer uses a rotating magnetic field to spin a magnetic bar (stir bar) submerged in the liquid, achieving homogeneous mixing without mechanical contact. It is ideal for dissolutions, chemical reactions, and media preparation.
Choose a heated model when you need to dissolve solutes requiring elevated temperature, perform thermochemical reactions, or maintain samples at controlled temperature during stirring. JP Selecta models reach up to 350°C.
Orbital shakers perform horizontal circular motion, ideal for cell cultures, staining, and washes in multiwell plates. Vortex mixers generate high-speed vibration for rapid mixing of individual tubes (Eppendorf, Falcon).
A multi-position stirrer allows stirring multiple samples simultaneously on a single platform (4, 6, 9, or 15 positions). It is ideal for laboratories processing sample series in parallel, optimizing time and space.
